How to Navigate Apple’s Call Blocking & Identification During Cold Outreach In my role, I regularly prospect department heads, directors, and C-level. I’ve made these two key mistakes during past outreach sessions: Mistake 1: Being overly transparent — “It’s Matéo from Company X.” Your prospect likely has a dozen messages just like this sitting on their phone. The probability of getting a callback is near zero. This approach only works for inbound leads or prospects who already know your brand. Mistake 2: Oversharing in the message — “Hi, I’m Matéo Debaye from Company X. I wanted to connect because we help companies like [Company Y] tackle challenges similar to yours...” The executives we target are overwhelmed. Dropping a full sales pitch in a quick text or voicemail won’t trigger a response. Since you haven’t had a chance to gauge their feedback, ignoring the message is simply the easiest path for them. How to get past the block: Strategy 1: Keep it minimal — “Matéo” The goal here is to leave only your first name, leveraging two core triggers: familiarity and curiosity. If they know a Matéo in their network, there’s a high chance they’ll respond. If they don’t, pure curiosity will prompt them to reply. Strategy 2 (High Risk): The hook — “Hey, it’s Matéo, your neighbor...” This drastically increases response rates, but it requires flawless execution once you get them on the line. The prospect may initially feel misled, so it’s up to you to quickly pivot and steer the conversation to your advantage. Please note that these insights are strictly based on my own personal experience in the field.
